Exhibition: Forward @ Charles Allis Art Museum
The front facade of the Charles Allis Art Museum
Every two years Milwaukee hosts a survey of contemporary art from across Wisconsin and I am ecstatic to announce that I have been selected to participate in this year's exhibition. The show, entitled "Forward" (that's the state motto for all of you non-Wisconsinites), is held at the Charles Allis Art Museum on Milwaukee's East Side. This will be my first show held in an art museum. This years curator and judge, Brent Budsburg, selected The Tempest from my submission of several artworks to be shown.
The Tempest, Oil on Panel, 24 x 36 in., 2016
If you've never been to Charles Allis I highly recommend going. This gilded age tudor mansion contains paintings by Thomas Gainsborough, Thomas Moran, George Inness, Ralph Albert Blakelock, Rosa Bonheur, and Winslow Homer, amongst etchings by Rembrandt and Whistler. Two large portraits by Lucas Cranach the Elder in their original 500 year old picture frames flank the entrance to the parlor containing Barbazon paintings form 19th century France. In addition to an assortment of Tiffany glass the museum also boasts a collection of ancient art including pottery from ancient Greece and Rome. The museum is one of Milwaukee's best kept secrets and local artists often refer to it as the "Milwaukee Frick" after the museum in New York.
Opening reception on October 27th from 5:30pm-8:30pm. Hor devours provided along with a cash bar. I will be in attendance for the duration of the evening. Hope to see you there!
Exhibition runs from October 27th, 2016-February 19th, 2017
